Thrive Clinical Psychology — Therapy for Individuals and Couples in Massachusetts and Illinois
Compassionate, evidence-based care led by Harvard-Trained Psychologist, Dr. Rivian Lewin
Personalized, Warm, and Effective Therapy
Dr. Rivian Lewin founded Thrive Clinical Psychology to offer specialized therapy for individuals and couples who are insightful, capable, and motivated — yet often hard on themselves and stuck in patterns that no longer serve them.
Today, she leads a team of Harvard-trained licensed clinical psychologists who share her commitment to integrity, compassion, and meaningful change. Together, our team helps clients improve emotional well-being, strengthen relationships, and navigate life’s challenges with confidence.
Our Therapeutic Approach
With advanced training and extensive experience, Dr. Lewin and her team integrate evidence-based therapies including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), and specialized sex and couples therapy approaches such as Sensate Focus.
Because every client’s needs are unique, we tailor treatment formats to fit individual goals and circumstances. Whether through traditional weekly therapy sessions or psychotherapy intensives—focused, extended sessions that allow for deeper work—our options are flexible and designed to maximize therapeutic progress while accommodating busy schedules.
The Experience at Thrive Clinical Psychology

Our Clients
Our cients are often high-achieving and successful in many areas of their lives, and capable of managing complex projects, responsibilities, and external expectations. However, despite professional or social accomplishments, many of these individuals struggle internally, facing self-criticism, emotional rigidity, and difficulty accepting the more tender parts of themselves.
For Individuals:
Many of our clients are used to managing their lives with precision, control, and prowess, but this approach can leave them feeling disconnected from their emotions, overly critical of themselves, distant from loved ones, and exhausted. They often experience anxiety, perfectionism, depression, or burnout as a result. Dr. Lewin and the team help these individuals shift from a “manage and fix” mindset to one that embraces emotional flexibility and self-compassion. Therapy focuses on reducing self-criticism, increasing self-acceptance, and learning ways to engage with their emotions that are more effective and better aligned with their true selves. Common psychological conditions in the practice include: anxiety, perfectionism, rigidity, self-criticism, substance use, OCD, and depression.
For Couples:
Dr. Lewin and the team work with high-achieving couples who may feel disconnected from each other, struggling to balance their busy lives with their emotional and romantic needs. Many of the couples we treat describe their dynamic as ‘pragmatic, functional, managerial’ as much of their communication is focused on coordination of tasks and navigating the logistics of life. This can lead couples to feel alone in their partnerships, filling the space between them with ‘life management’ rather than deep emotional connection, intimacy, or desire. Couples often come to us because they are "stuck" in patterns of conflictual or avoidant communication, feel emotionally distant, or experience sex/intimacy challenges (performance anxiety, misaligned sex drives, sexual avoidance, etc.). Dr. Lewin and the team help them navigate these challenges with empathy, understanding, and practical tools that foster trust, intimacy, and healthier dynamics. In addition, Dr. Lewin offers sex therapy to couples facing intimacy issues or sexual health concerns, helping them reconnect physically and establish positive sexual experiences.

Treatment is individualized and integrative—drawing from evidence-based practices and always attuned to your personal values, identity, and strengths.
Do you and your partner find yourselves trapped in recurring arguments? Have you experienced a significant change or heartache, leaving you feeling more distant than connected?
Are you struggling with mismatched desire, performance anxiety, intimacy concerns, or changes in your sexual relationship?
Couples therapy helps partners address persistent patterns, develop new ways of communicating and bonding, and cultivate a relationship that reflects shared values. With additional expertise in sex therapy, we also supports couples improve their sexual satisfaction, connection, and intimacy.
Are you highly motivated to change but find traditional 45-minute weekly sessions too brief and stretched out? We offer psychotherapy intensives—customized, time-extended, concentrated therapy sessions designed to create meaningful progress in a shorter time frame. These extended sessions, provided in close succession, allow for comprehensive diagnostic evaluation, deep exploration, skill-building, and integration without the usual time constraints of weekly therapy.
Psychotherapy intensives are especially effective for individuals struggling with OCD, anxiety disorders, or couples working through entrenched relationship challenges. Intensives are a flexible and impactful alternative to weekly therapy. Dr. Lewin makes determinations about the appropriateness of using an intensive vs. traditional psychotherapy model on a case-by-case basis.
Happiness lies not in finding what is missing,
but in finding what is present.”
